Cable cutting technology makes a positive impact on crime every day
InstaVolt EV charging sites across the UK are seeing continual value from the powerful new anti-theft technology. Since introducing CableGuard™ we have seen a significant drop in EV charging cable theft incidents – and we’re steadily continuing to roll it out across our nationwide network of ultra-rapid EV charging stations.
The deployment of CableGuard™ is focused on cable theft hotspots, including Southampton, Birmingham, Sheffield, South London and Newcastle. This new layer of protection is designed to safeguard the UK’s growing EV charging infrastructure, and early results show it’s working.
Created in collaboration with EV design specialists Formula Space, CableGuard™ is a flexible, tamper-resistant sleeve that wraps around EV charging cables without disrupting the user experience. When tampered with, the system deploys a forensic liquid that glows under UV light and ties the incident to a specific charging location, helping law enforcement to take swift action.
Alongside CableGuard™, InstaVolt has integrated real-time GPS and geo-tracking into its charging infrastructure, ensuring we’re alerted the moment a cable is removed from its site. Our secure EV charging approach also includes AI-enabled CCTV monitored 24/7 and on-site patrols led by security professionals.
These security measures are already showing results. By reducing vandalism and protecting chargers from theft, we’re keeping more reliable EV chargers online and accessible – giving drivers confidence that they can charge without disruption.
At InstaVolt, we’re investing every day in making the UK’s EV charging network smarter, safer, and more resilient. The continued rollout of CableGuard™ marks another step forward in protecting our infrastructure and supporting the country’s transition to electric transport.
