Welcoming Abbotts Barton Care Home for a Sustainability-Focused Visit
We recently had the pleasure of welcoming six guests from Colten Care’s Abbotts Barton Care Home in Winchester to our flagship Winchester Superhub for a sustainability-themed visit.
The visit formed part of the care home’s ongoing programme to deliver meaningful and engaging experiences for its residents. The care home is part of a wider, connected group of 21 across the South Coast, all of which aim to provide regular, interesting trips for their residents.
Located at Three Maids Hill, the Superhub is our largest site, featuring 44 ultra-rapid chargers powered entirely by renewable energy. With solar panels and on-site battery storage, the site showcases the infrastructure and innovation needed to drive the UK’s transition to electric transport.
Led by our Asset Management Director, Neil Hutchings, the group enjoyed a behind-the-scenes look at how the chargers work and how green electricity is delivered to drivers every day. Questions flowed freely over coffee at the on-site Starbucks, with plenty of discussion about the future of EVs and the site’s place in it.
The visit included a peek inside the chargers themselves, which offered fascinating insights for the guests, particularly one resident who previously worked as a civil engineer.
Sarah from the companionship team at Abbotts Barton said: “It was lovely to spend the afternoon with the InstaVolt team. The visit was everything we hoped it would be: engaging, fun and informative. Our residents were talking about it non-stop for the rest of the day!”
Abbotts Barton resident and retired civil engineer, Alan Hall said: “It was all interesting but the highlight for me was when Neil opened the front of the charging station and explained how it all worked.”
Neil Hutchings added: “It was a real pleasure to welcome the Abbotts Barton team. Their interest and enthusiasm were infectious. At InstaVolt, we’re proud to support our communities and share our vision for a cleaner, greener future.”
