Solar and battery storage innovation drives lower charging tariff at InstaVolt’s Winchester Superhub
We are delighted to announce that we are introducing a new standard charging rate at our flagship Winchester Superhub of 65p per kWh.
From midday on Thursday 17 April 2025, drivers charging via the InstaVolt App or an InstaVolt RFID card will benefit from the reduced rate, alongside the existing off-peak rate of 50p per kWh, which runs from 7pm to 7am daily. Making it one of the cheapest PAYG ultra-rapid charging sites in the country.
This pricing initiative follows the launch of the Winchester Superhub, our largest and most advanced site to date, strategically located near the busy A34 and close to the M3, the gateway to the south coast, midlands and north.
Designed with long-distance drivers in mind, the site supports commuters and travellers alike with:
- 44 ultra-rapid chargers (up to 160kW)
- 4 extended bays for vans and long vehicles
- 4 drive-through bays for large or towing vehicles
- 3 fully-accessible Blue Badge bays, plus wide access across all bays
- On-site Starbucks Café, children’s play area, and a dedicated dog walking zone
The Winchester Superhub is the first InstaVolt site to feature an on-site solar farm (870 panels) and advanced battery storage systems (with 960kW/4MWh total capacity).
These innovations reduce reliance on the national grid, enabling the site to generate and store clean energy, delivering consistent, cost-effective power, especially during peak hours.
This self-sufficient energy model keeps operational costs low and shields against energy price volatility, allowing us to pass savings directly to drivers through reduced tariffs.
Delvin Lane, CEO commented: “Our investment in renewable energy and battery storage at Winchester is helping us reduce grid dependence and operate more efficiently. We’re delighted to be passing those benefits on to drivers. By using the free to use InstaVolt App, customers can access lower rates while supporting a more sustainable future for EV charging.”
The Superhub also reflects InstaVolt’s broader mission to remove barriers to EV adoption through affordable pricing, reliable infrastructure, and driver-first facilities, all delivered at what many are calling the “service station of the future.”
Drivers can access this rate by downloading the InstaVolt app on their chosen app store.
