In the summer of the staycation, take the time to explore somewhere closer to home with our top four electric car road trips. Road trips require a little more planning than if you were to visit one destination, even more so if an electric car is involved, but with so many of our rapid EV charging points throughout the UK, you’re in safe hands! We recommend mapping out your route beforehand and downloading the InstaVolt App to search your nearest charging points.

The Lake District

Explore England’s largest National Park and enjoy breathtaking views as you pass lakes, forests and hills. Taking you through a number of towns, there are plenty of opportunities for you to stop for a break at one of our charging points, or to visit a cosy pub along the way. Start by charging up at our EV charging station in Ulverston and head up to Windermere, before heading to Keswick, and be spoiled by the incredible scenery that the Lake District has to offer.

East Scotland

Begin your journey in Edinburgh and venture up the east of Scotland, stopping in Fife, Dundee and Aberdeen to get a real taste of Scotland. From coastlines to bustling cities to whisky trails, if you want to get a glimpse of stunning Scottish scenery this road trip is for you, with opportunities for a recharge at one of our charging points in Edinburgh, Dunfermline, Forfar and Aberdeen.

Wales

If you’re looking for something short and sweet, and to get a taste of Wales, this road trip is for you. Starting in Newport, charge up at one of our EV charging points, then head to the capital before driving to Barry and enjoying the seaside resort. Take the road up the coast and there are opportunities to stop in Llansamlet or Port Talbot for a recharge and a bite to eat, or continue up to Carmarthen for a final recharge before driving on the outskirts of the Brecon Beacons up to Leominster.

The Cotswolds

If you want to enjoy something more quintessentially “English”, a road trip to the Cotswolds is for you. Charge up at one of our points in Bristol, before heading on to Bath. Driving through the Cotswolds, you can take in all the picturesque villages built with honey-coloured stone, cruising through the winding country lanes and taking a pit stop in Stroud for a recharge. Enjoy the country houses and castles as you go, with opportunities to stop at one of our charging points in Cheltenham or Evesham, before finishing at Stratford-upon-Avon.
