EV drivers can enjoy Starbucks’ world-famous coffee at InstaVolt’s Winchester superhub
EV drivers stopping for a recharge at the UK’s largest single operator rapid charge superhub near Winchester will be able to enjoy a shot of world-famous coffee before continuing their journey, as InstaVolt announces a partnership with Starbucks licensee Cobra Coffee, to open a café at its new superhub, just off the A34.
The partnership is a historic one, as Starbucks and Cobra Coffee will be the first stand-alone partner to provide refreshments at an InstaVolt hub: “Our other superhubs are located at food and beverage locations or retail spaces, all of which have their own facilities for customers to refresh and recharge before they get back on the road,” said Delvin Lane, CEO at InstaVolt.
“This will be the first on-site refreshment partnership for InstaVolt at one of our superhubs. It will also be the first time Cobra Coffee, a Starbucks UK franchised business partner, has provided a Starbucks café at an EV superhub.”
Due to open in spring 2025, the Winchester superhub, situated at the Three Maids Hill junction just metres from the A34 and easily accessible from the M3, will have 44 accessible charging bays, including extra-long van bays and drive-through bays for towing vehicles.
“We are delighted to be able to work with globally recognised brands to be able to offer our drivers a great charging experience,” said Delvin. “In addition to the Starbucks café, amenities at this flagship site will include a children’s play area and toilets available 24/7.
“As well as the convenience of contactless payment and an ultra-rapid, reliable charge, families will be able to enjoy a break while the kids can stretch their legs in the play area. Everyone can recharge and be back on the road in no time.”
Mark Smith, Group CEO of Southern Co-op, owners of Cobra Coffee, said: “We’re really excited to be bringing the Starbucks experience to the UK’s largest rapid EV superhub, creating 14 new jobs and playing our part in de-carbonising travel. We have a real ambition across all our businesses to act on climate change so alongside access to renewable and fast charging, our site will be built to high environmental standards where customers will not only be able to recharge their cars, but also personally, with their favourite Starbucks beverages and food.”
The Winchester superhub demonstrates InstaVolt’s continued mission to install charging sites where drivers want to be. “This location is at the gateway to the South West,” said Delvin Lane. “It’s also close to the busy A34, a major route connecting the South with the Midlands and beyond.”
The site is a key pillar in InstaVolt’s new phase of growth to install 11,000 ultra rapid chargers in the UK and Ireland. “We are committed to supporting the growing numbers of EV drivers by providing charging sites at strategically placed locations on the road network, in both rural and urban areas. Superhubs like Three Maids Hill catapult InstaVolt to the next level and reinforce our position as the UK’s largest rapid EV charging network.”
