25 July 2022, UK: Leading EV charging network, InstaVolt, today announces its latest hire in new Commercial Director, Antony Urquhart, who will spearhead the rapid charging experts’ considerable growth efforts.

Following EQT Infrastructure’s acquisition of InstaVolt in February, the network has continued to make significant moves in the EV charging space. In June 2022 InstaVolt became the second largest rapid charging network in the UK, and this continued growth supports its pledge to install 10,000 rapid EV chargers by 2032. Antony’s role will focus on this continued development, as well as the planning and implementation of commercial strategies to bolster the company’s nationwide impact.

Previously at multinational energy firm, SSE, Urquhart has held senior leadership positions for more than nineteen years within his 27-year spell at the company, including Investment and Portfolio Manager and Operations Director, where he gained experience in delivery of Large Capital Infrastructure Programmes, Organisational Change, Performance Excellence and Commercial Management.

Antony Urquhart, newly appointed Commercial Director of InstaVolt commented: “I’m thrilled to be joining such an exciting growth sector and particularly excited to be joining a company which is leading the industry. During my time at SSE, I led large multi-functional teams and delivered significant asset-based programmes of work – both skills which I look forward to utilising here. InstaVolt has had an impressively busy year so far, and I’m excited to support the business accelerate its position in the market.”

Urquhart’s time at SSE saw him take a lead role in the Ofgem-approved RIIO-ED1 business plan from concept to integration, which enables the electricity distribution business to enhance its network, responding to changes in electricity demand for the likes of EV charging.

Adrian Keen, CEO of InstaVolt commented: “Antony’s arrival comes at a significant time of growth and innovation for InstaVolt and we’re grateful to have his considerable experience and commitment on board. He’ll be an integral member of the team as we accelerate our roll-out of rapid charge points.”

This hiring forms part of InstaVolt’s bigger picture expansion, with several strategically important hires joining the team this summer, in key fields such as Operations, Project Development and Maintenance to ensure foundations are robust as the firm grows.

This year InstaVolt was named the UK’s best public charging network by Zap-Map for the fourth year in a row and was also awarded the EVIE “Private Sector Infrastructure Strategy of the Year” award for the second year in a row. In July 2022, a survey by Electric Road named InstaVolt as the UK’s best charging network.
