Strengthening the UK’s EV charging network
Cable theft from EV chargers is a growing challenge, causing disruption for drivers, financial loss for operators, and undermining the UK’s progress towards net zero.
At InstaVolt, we are responding with industry-leading measures to protect this vital infrastructure and give drivers confidence that they can always rely on our charging network.
Our security measures include the nationwide rollout of CableGuard™ forensic cable protection; the installation of CCTV, and the deployment of GPS tracking technology in partnership with Trackit247, providing real-time updates every three seconds. This technology allows us not only to deter theft but also to work with police to trace and recover cables and detain offenders in real time.
As part of these initiatives, we continue to upgrade our network site by site with the latest protective measures. The most recent locations to benefit from security updates include:
- The Peacock Farm, Peacock Lane, Bracknell, RG12 8SS – 4 x 160kW ultra-rapid chargers and on-site restaurant
- Marcham Rd, Abingdon, OX14 1TP – 4 x 160kW ultra-rapid chargers + 4 rapid chargers and on-site retail park
- Sir Henry Lee Crescent, A41, Aylesbury, HP18 0PE – 8 x 160kW ultra-rapid chargers and on-site Miller & Carter
CableGuard™ is a high-strength protective sleeve that releases a forensic liquid if tampered with. The liquid glows under UV light and is traceable to a specific location, helping law enforcement act against offenders and strengthening deterrence.
By combining CableGuard™, CCTV, and GPS tracking with 24/7 monitoring, InstaVolt is setting a new standard for the protection of EV infrastructure. As the UK’s largest ultra-rapid charging network, we remain committed to innovation, security and service, so that EV drivers can count on safe, sustainable and uninterrupted charging wherever the road takes them.
