A new 12-bay, 160kW rapid charging site will open to the public this week at Lydiard Fields, Swindon, located just off the M4 at junction 16 (Swindon W), a key route for commuters and travellers in the region. This strategically placed ultra-rapid charging hub is set to provide electric vehicle drivers with rapid, reliable charging, helping to support the growing demand for EV infrastructure along one of the UK’s busiest motorways. The site offers 12 rapid chargers, each capable of delivering up to 160kW, ensuring drivers can quickly top up their vehicles before continuing their journey. Located within easy reach of popular amenities such as Costa Coffee, Greggs, Subway, and nearby Hilton and Premier Inn hotels, drivers will have access to a variety of options to refresh, relax, work, or grab a bite to eat while their vehicle charges.

A significant feature of this new charging site is its commitment to accessibility. Six fully accessible bays on site have been designed to fully meet PAS1899 specifications, ensuring they are accessible to drivers needing improved access. This marks a major step in making electric vehicle charging more inclusive, allowing all drivers to benefit from the rapid charging network. With its prime location and enhanced accessibility, the new Lydiard Fields charging hub is set to become a vital stop for EV drivers travelling on the M4, supporting the shift to electric mobility across the UK.
