We recently had the pleasure of welcoming Sean Woodcock, MP for Banbury, to our charging hub in Stroud Park. It was an important opportunity to discuss a growing issue in our sector: the increasing threat of cable theft and vandalism targeting the UK’s EV charging infrastructure.

Over the past year, we’ve seen a significant rise in incidents – with a 90% year-on-year increase in cable theft across our network. Many of these have occurred here in Oxfordshire, causing chargers to go offline and disrupting access for drivers who rely on us to stay on the road.

We spoke with Sean about the steps we’re taking to combat this. From CableGuard™ and forensic marking and enhanced CCTV to GPS tracking, we’re doing all we can to protect our infrastructure and support law enforcement in recovering stolen equipment.

But this can’t be tackled in isolation. That’s why we’re calling for EV charging infrastructure to be officially recognised as Critical National Infrastructure (CNI). This would enable stronger police support, tougher sentencing, and better coordination across the sector.

Sean expressed his support for a clean, reliable charging network and welcomed the measures we’ve introduced. We were pleased to show him what we’ve built here in Banbury – one of our busiest hubs – and to discuss how we can work together to protect the future of sustainable transport.

We remain committed to providing a safe and resilient public charging network – powered by 100% renewable energy – that keeps drivers moving and supports the UK’s journey to net zero.
