Celebrating a Hat-Trick of National Awards for Our Winchester Superhub
This week we’ve had the pleasure of celebrating something truly special: our Winchester Superhub has picked up its third national award of the year.
At the Electrical Contracting News Awards, the site was named EV Project of the Year, adding to its earlier success at both the Solar & Storage Live Awards in September and the EVIEs in October. It’s always encouraging when the industry takes notice of what we’re building, but this hat-trick is particularly meaningful for everyone involved in bringing the Winchester Superhub to life.
When we designed Winchester, our ambition was to set a new benchmark for what an EV charging site could and should be. Today, it stands as the UK’s largest single-operator ultra-rapid charging location, with 44 ultra-rapid 160kW chargers capable of boosting most EVs from 20% to 80% in around 20 minutes.
But it’s not just about the numbers. We wanted to create a destination that feels comfortable, intuitive and future-proof. That’s why the Superhub includes:
- 44 extra wide EV charging bays, all fitted with 160kW ultra-rapid chargers
- 4 fully accessible, blue badge-only spaces
- Drive-through bays for larger and towing vehicles
- An on-site Starbucks
- 24/7 WCs
- A children’s play area and dedicated dog-walking spaces
- Clear, open layouts designed for ease of use
All of this sits alongside one of the most advanced energy systems we’ve built to date. An on-site solar array and battery storage system helps to alleviate pressure on the national grid and any power that is pulled from the grid is from 100% renewable sources as part of our partnership with Octopus Energy.
Seeing the Superhub recognised for a third time this year is a brilliant acknowledgement of the team here at InstaVolt, along with our construction partners, technology partners and everyone who helped bring the project from concept to reality.
As we expand our network towards 11,000 chargers in the UK and Ireland, and 5,000 internationally, sites like Winchester set the tone for where we’re heading. They help to normalise EV charging, give drivers confidence and show what the future of clean-energy transport really looks like.
