InstaVolt, the UK’s largest ultra-rapid public EV charging network, has begun works at its next superhub site in Chicklade, Wiltshire – close to Stonehenge.

Based on the A303, the first phase of works has begun to prepare the site prior to excavation and demolition of the old petrol station to build a new InstaVolt superhub. Formal construction is set to begin in March with the site expected to be completed late summer 2026.

The new 10 thousand square foot site is made for EV drivers to both charge with the 30 ultra-rapid EV chargers and to relax with a premium farm shop retailer and café, outdoor seating, landscaped areas and children’s play area.

Following the same model as InstaVolt’s superhub in Winchester, Chicklade will use solar power and large batteries so supplement its grid connection, allowing for more stable charging speeds.

The site is situated on the historic Fonthill Estate, known for its sustainable land management and heritage conservation. Just 20 minutes from key tourist sites such as Stonehenge and Longleat and half an hour from Salisbury, the site is located in a high traffic hotspot.

Matthew Tunstall, Chief Operating Officer at InstaVolt, was on-site this week to meet the project manager Bruno Skinner from Blackford Projects and the Gartell & Son construction team as they start the works.

He said: “This is a major milestone for us as we develop a fantastic asset for this area.

“It will provide the perfect stop for EV drivers travelling through the region, as well as a destination for those who live nearby to recharge and make use of the amenities on-site.”

With more than 2,200 chargers operating at over 99% uptime and powered by 100% renewable energy, InstaVolt continues to set the standard for reliability, accessibility and innovation in public EV charging across the UK.
