InstaVolt accelerates Iberian expansion with new Portuguese site
Leading UK ultra-rapid electric vehicle (EV) Charge Point Operator, InstaVolt has opened its sixth Portuguese charging station in Mourão on the N256, a town 15km from the Spanish border perfectly positioned to capture cross-border traffic between Portugal and Spain.
The new site features two 160kW ultra-rapid chargers, located at Mourão’s municipal car park on Dr. Manuel Ramos Street, Mourão, 7240-275 – a short drive from the A6 motorway – a key route connecting Lisbon to Madrid via the Alqueva region.
The timing aligns with growing EV adoption across the Iberian Peninsula, as both Portugal and Spain continue to see increased electric vehicle uptake. EV sales in Spain surged by 134.9% in the first half of 2025 – one of the fastest growth rates in Europe – while battery EV registrations in Portugal were up 40.97% year on year in January 2025.
InstaVolt has a reputation for reliability and ease of use, with payment by contactless debit or credit card including Amex, Apple Pay and Google Pay, the business is rolling out its award-winning UK model of public charging to European drivers and UK drivers making trips further afield.
Delvin Lane, CEO of InstaVolt said: “Our arrival in Mourão marks another move in our expansion across Iberia. Portugal and Spain are growing EV markets, and drivers here need the same dependable, convenient, easy charging options that have made InstaVolt a trusted name in the UK. We’re proud to bring our experience and simplicity-first approach to more drivers in Europe.”
With more than 2,100 chargers across the UK and Europe, InstaVolt is committed to rolling out 11,000 ultra-rapid chargers in the UK & Ireland and 5,000 across our international market by 2030.
