How much does it cost?

InstaVolt prides itself on its transparent pricing policy. All InstaVolt chargers cost just £0.45 per kWh. There’s no connection fee, no monthly membership fee, and no time-element. Pay only for what you use. That’s it!

How do I use the charger?

Using our InstaVolt DC rapid chargers couldn’t be simpler.

  1. Tap your contactless enabled debit or credit card on the front of the machine.
  2. Insert the correct plug into your electric car, and press the “start” button.
  3. Once your car has reached the desired level of charge, simply press the “stop” button on the control panel, remove the charging cable and return the cable to its harness.

Clear instructions are displayed at every InstaVolt charging location.

Remember – there’s no membership, subscription or smartphone app required. You pay only for the electricity you use!

How long can I stay at a charger?

Whilst InstaVolt does not impose a maximum stay, drivers are encouraged to move their vehicle once they have completed a charging session to allow other drivers to charge. Drivers are also advised to adhere to any parking enforcement on the site where the chargers are located. InstaVolt cannot be held liable for any fines or penalties incurred for failing to obey site-wide parking restrictions.

Are InstaVolt chargers exempt from on-site parking enforcement?

No. InstaVolt operates on land operated by third parties, and as such drivers using the InstaVolt charging stations are required to adhere to existing on-site parking enforcement.

Who do I call if I encounter a problem when I'm charging?

Why am I seeing £5 or £15 on my bank or card statement?

If paying via contactless debit or credit card, a pre-authorisation fee of either £5 or £15 is reserved on your card. You may see this on your account as a “Pending Transaction”. This pre-authorisation amount will automatically be cancelled and replaced with the actual amount you were charged upon completion of the charging session.

How can I get a VAT receipt?

To generate a VAT receipt, simply click here or e-mail with the charging station name you used, the date and time of the charging session, and how much it cost you and we will produce a receipt for you.

What type of electric cars can use InstaVolt chargers?

Any electric vehicle that is DC compatible can use our rapid chargers.

How quick is it to use an InstaVolt charger?

Our electric vehicle chargers are all rapid 50kWh+ chargers, capable of adding hundreds of km of range in minutes

How do I find my nearest InstaVolt charger?

All of our chargers are listed on our website in the ‘find a charging station near you’ section. They’re also listed on, the National ChargePoint Registry and on the ChargePoint app.

What charging connectors do you have on the InstaVolt units?

All of our charging stations are equipped with CHAdeMO and CCS2 connectors.

Do I need to bring my own cable?

Tesla Model S & Model X drivers will need a CHAdeMO or CCS ‘Charging Adaptor’, which is available from your local Tesla dealer.

Tesla Model 3 is compatible for CCS charging without a Charging Adaptor.

Do I need a membership or RFID card?

No – that’s one of the great things about InstaVolt. Just tap your contactless credit or debit card to pay.

Do I need to download an app?

No. You can activate a charging session with only a contactless debit or credit card.

You can use the ChargePoint app if you would like to, but this is entirely optional.

Is there a minimum spend or connection charge?

No. We charge a flat rate of £0.45 per kWh, it’s that simple.

What do I do if there’s a petrol or diesel car blocking the charging space?

If practical please contact the front desk or reception at the location you are charging at to see if the car is identified. If this is not practical, please send an email to with details of the site at which you attempted to charge, date and time. We can share this information with our partners on site and work together to reduce the risk of it happening again.
