At InstaVolt we continue to be at the forefront of supporting the future of E-mobility.
The UK government’s £650 million Electric Car Grant marks a turning point in the shift to electric mobility, one that makes EV ownership more realistic for every driver. With up to £1,500 off qualifying models and as much as £3,750 off for the most sustainable manufacturers, the transition to electric is not a premium option, it’s a mainstream choice.
Only cars priced under £37,000 qualify, of which there are now dozens on the market. Among the first eligible models are four from Citroën, including the e-C3, now priced at just £20,595 plus the e-C4 and e-C5 models as well as the e-Berlingo at under £30,000. These are price points that challenge the idea that EVs are out of reach for most households and signal a new phase of growth for the market.
The grant is designed to reward sustainability as well as making EV cars more affordable and there are two levels of discounts depending on how committed the manufacturer is to decarbonisation.
As EVs become more accessible, charging must keep pace, and our InstaVolt network is already built to do just that. With more than 2,000 chargers located nationwide, our infrastructure is designed for simplicity, speed and reliability. Every charger is powered by 100% renewable energy, so drivers aren’t just making the switch to electric, they’re making a genuinely low-carbon choice.
This new phase of affordability comes at a critical time. According to the latest figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), battery electric vehicle (BEV) registrations grew by 9.1% in July, with market share rising to 21.3%, up from 18.5% a year ago. This growth highlights increasing consumer confidence and a clear appetite for cleaner transport options.
The Electric Car Grant is a timely and welcome boost, helping more drivers make the switch to electric by lowering upfront costs and rewarding sustainable manufacturing. As more qualifying models are confirmed, interest in BEVs is set to accelerate even further.
With EV affordability improving and infrastructure like ours already supporting real-world use, the UK is entering a new phase in its electric journey. The road to net zero is no longer just a vision – it’s a practical reality.
