Banbury gets even more powerful with major upgrade
Located just off junction 11 of the M40 this site has played a major role in the InstaVolt journey.
When we first arrived at this retail park just off Junction 11 of the M40 in the summer of 2020, we installed eight chargers. Stroud Park’s location, on one of the busiest commuter and logistics corridors in the country, meant demand grew fast. We doubled the site to 16 chargers in 2022, then again to 32 in 2023, making it our largest hub in the UK at the time, and the site where we switched on our 1,000th charger nationwide.
Now, every charger at Banbury Superhub has been upgraded to deliver speeds of up to 160kW, giving drivers even faster charging and helping keep journeys moving.
For drivers, that means less time waiting and more time getting on with the journey, whether that’s a quick stop between London and Birmingham or a longer break to make the most of what’s on site.
Banbury Superhub offers more than just ultra-rapid charging. Alongside the charging bays, drivers can enjoy Costa Coffee, a Miller & Carter Steakhouse for a proper sit-down meal, and Hotel Chocolat’s Velvetiser CafĂ© for something sweeter. Charging out of hours? InstaVolt App users can also take advantage of our off-peak 55p/kWh rate, and there’s a 24 hour vending machine on site if you need a drink or snack while you wait.
This upgrade doesn’t happen in isolation. It’s part of a wider programme of investment across our network, as we continue to build charging infrastructure that keeps pace with the rapid growth of electric vehicle adoption across the UK.
And we’re not stopping there. Soon, we’ll be installing battery storage at Banbury Superhub, making the site even more reliable and resilient while helping to support the next generation of EV drivers.
From eight chargers to a fully ultra-rapid 32-charger hub, Banbury Superhub has grown alongside demand. Today, every charger delivers up to 160kW, with more improvements still to come.
