Representatives from the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV) last week paid a visit to our flagship site the Winchester Superhub.  Since it opened earlier this year, the site has quickly become a favourite with both local EV drivers and those travelling through the South, with drivers taking advantage of the convenient onsite amenities and benefiting from our integrated solar-to-battery technology, which helps keep costs down while supporting sustainable travel.

Richard Bruce and Caroline Low, Directors of Transport Decarbonisation, met with our CEO Delvin Lane and members of the senior leadership team to tour the state-of-the-art EV charging hub and discuss how strategic collaboration between government and private sector stakeholders can support the UK’s transition to net zero.

The Winchester Superhub showcases InstaVolt’s pioneering approach to electric vehicle charging infrastructure, featuring 44 fully accessible 160kW ultra-rapid EV chargers powered by 100% renewable energy, alongside an on-site solar farm of 870 panels and a 4MWh battery storage system. Engineered to reduce grid dependence and bring down public EV charging costs, the Superhub stores surplus solar energy and leverages cheaper overnight electricity to provide reliable charging during high-demand periods.

The visit underlines InstaVolt’s commitment to sustainable transport and working closely with government bodies like OZEV to accelerate nationwide access to clean, dependable EV charging solutions. As a flagship site in the UK’s growing EV network, the Winchester Superhub not only delivers fast and efficient charging but also offers a premium driver experience with facilities including a Starbucks café, a children’s play park, a dog walking area, and 24/7 toilet amenities.

CEO Delvin Lane said: “We’re grateful to Richard and Caroline for finding the time within their busy schedules to come and see the Superhub. It’s our first-ever location where we’re generating and storing our own renewable energy – an achievement we’re immensely proud of at InstaVolt. We’re committed to working in partnership with government bodies such as OZEV wherever possible to make EV adoption more widely accessible as petrol and diesel vehicles are phased out.”

Ideally located just off the A34 and junction 9 of the M3, the InstaVolt Winchester Superhub continues to lead the way in creating a best-in-class EV charging experience, setting a new benchmark for electric vehicle charging in the UK.
