InstaVolt appoints new CCO to accelerate growth towards goal to be Europe’s largest rapid charging network
As InstaVolt, one of Europe’s largest rapid EV charging networks, contracts its 2,000th charger, the company has appointed a new Chief Commercial Officer to further drive growth.
With more than 20 years’ experience in senior leadership roles, Simon Smith brings with him a proven track record of creating high performing teams and delivering above target sales growth through innovative solutions across a range of industries including energy, telecoms, procurement, and IT.
Smith joins InstaVolt from eEnergy Group plc, where he enjoyed a highly successful term as Managing Director of the Energy Efficiency Division, where he was responsible for driving both growth and the integration of acquisitions in the UK and Ireland. Between 2021 and 2023 he tripled sales, escalating them to £26 million, by introducing innovative Energy as a Service (EAAS) products to the market. These included Solar and Battery Storage Systems, Workplace EV Charging Stations, and Energy Analytics Solutions.
Previously he was the Group Sales and Marketing Director with Yu Energy plc, which supplied gas, electricity, water and EV to the UK corporate sector. As part of the Executive Management team, he was responsible for the strategic leadership of the sales and marketing functions, doubling the average monthly bookings in 2020 and continuing a significant growth trend, increasing turnover from £80m to £150m+ in the space of two years. Simon also worked to deliver a turnaround strategy involving a new digital sales and marketing strategy including growth for indirect sales channels.
Of his appointment, Smith said: “InstaVolt is on a remarkable journey and my role is to accelerate the growth not only in the UK but, with my international experience, across Europe and beyond.
“I’ve long been an admirer of InstaVolt. The first public charger I used when I bought my first EV three years ago, was InstaVolt at McDonald’s in Milton Keynes – so I’m thrilled to be here, building the brand and taking the business to the next level.
“I’m passionate about encouraging the electric transition and the drive to net zero, while building intrinsic value for the business.”
InstaVolt has plans in place to install 11,000 ultra rapid chargers in the UK and Ireland; 5,000 across Spain and Portugal; and over 300 in Iceland – setting the benchmark for reliable, contactless, EV charging across the world.
Adrian Keen, InstaVolt’s CEO, said: “We’re delighted to have attracted someone of Simon’s calibre and he will be an excellent addition to the senior management team. Simon has outstanding credentials in both the B2B and B2C space and his track record of delivering high growth for companies speaks for itself. This is a pivotal moment for the company as we forge ahead in the UK, build on our success in Iceland and grow the business in Ireland, Spain and Portugal.”
