Chicklade’s charging destination of the future starts to take shape!

A major milestone has been reached at Chicklade, with the steel frame now rising on site and giving the first real glimpse of the landmark ultra-rapid charging destination to come. Set on the A303, this transformation from a former petrol station into a state-of-the-art Superhub marks one of the most significant EV infrastructure projects under way in the South West.

Alongside the steel frame works, installation of the EV charger ducting and channels has also taken place, laying the essential groundwork that will power the site’s ultra-rapid chargers once complete. With construction progressing at pace across the full site, Chicklade is fast becoming a visible landmark on this well-travelled route west.

Once complete, the Superhub will feature 30 x 240kW EV charging spaces, with provision for an additional 12, alongside 60 ICE parking bays and two 2MW battery energy storage systems (BESS) to supplement grid supply. Drivers will be welcomed by an exceptional 10,000 sq ft food and beverage offering showcasing fresh local produce, an in-house bakery, butchery and deli, set within beautifully landscaped outdoor space and a new footpath connecting the site to the village of Chicklade. Improvements to access on the A303 will further enhance the experience for drivers arriving at the site.

With the frame now rising and below-ground infrastructure taking shape, Chicklade is moving steadily towards completion later this year – set to become one of the most impressive ultra-rapid charging destinations on the network, and a true step change in what EV drivers can expect from a stop on the road.
