InstaVolt expands first Iberian site in its Portuguese network

We’ve reached an important milestone as we expand one of our operational sites in Portugal, the first expansion in the country, further strengthening our growing charging network across the country.

Located at Bigodes Restaurant in Alcobaça, the site is just off the N1 – a major North/South connecting road – and holds particular significance for us as it was originally home to our very first charger in Portugal installed as a pilot location.

Positioned on a busy national road where drivers regularly stop to rest and recharge, the pilot site proved highly successful and has now grown from one to three chargers including an accessible bay.

The site will be expanded from a single charger to three BYD 160kW ultra-rapid chargers, one of which includes an accessible bay, with infrastructure already in place to support up to six units in the future.

With this latest expansion, our live network in Portugal now stands at 16 operational chargers.

The success of the Bigodes Restaurant site is part of our approach to deploying reliable, rapid charging at convenient, high-traffic locations, giving drivers the opportunity to recharge both their vehicles and themselves while on the road.

We currently have 3,500 chargers live or in development across more than 1,000 locations in the UK, Ireland, Spain, Portugal and Iceland. As we continue to expand across Europe, we remain committed to making EV charging more accessible, reliable and easy to use for drivers wherever they travel.
