EV drivers in Newcastle can now charge with confidence following the reopening of InstaVolt’s charging site at Chapel House Service Station, now equipped with the latest CableGuard™ anti-theft technology.

Located just off the A69/A1, the site is back online after cable damage recently and it’s now part of InstaVolt’s growing list of sites protected by CableGuard™, a smart security innovation designed to deter cable theft and minimise disruption for drivers.

CableGuard™ is a high-strength cable sleeve made from a flexible, tamper-resistant material. If interfered with, it releases a forensic liquid that glows under UV light and is traceable to a specific location through a police-accessible database. This makes it a powerful deterrent and supports law enforcement in tracking and prosecuting offenders.

InstaVolt first introduced CableGuard™ in April 2025 as part of its nationwide strategy to combat cable theft – a crime that causes inconvenience for drivers and significant repair costs for infrastructure providers. Since then, the technology has been rolled out across theft-prone hotspots.

The Newcastle site, now fully restored and more secure, offers the same trusted convenience EV drivers expect from InstaVolt. With on-site amenities such as Londis you can stop and shop while your car chargers, or drop the car in while you are doing some local errands or taking the dog for a walk in the park, this site remains an ideal stop for recharging both vehicle and driver.

As the UK’s largest ultra-rapid charging network, InstaVolt remains committed to investing in innovation, security and service – ensuring drivers can rely on safe, sustainable and uninterrupted charging, wherever the road takes them.
