Supporting Local Biodiversity Through Woodland Conservation
Creating a more sustainable future means expanding the UK’s ultra-rapid EV charging network while making a positive impact in the communities where we live and work.
Recently, members of the InstaVolt team spent the day volunteering alongside Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council at Great Binfields Woodland, helping to restore and protect an important local green space close to our headquarters.
Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council regularly work with volunteers to care for the borough’s parks, nature reserves and woodlands, helping to improve habitats for wildlife and ensure these spaces can be enjoyed by future generations. Great Binfields Woodland is one of those important local sites, and the day focused on practical conservation work that will have a lasting impact.
While sycamore trees are a familiar part of the British landscape, they can spread rapidly and outcompete native species, reducing biodiversity if left unmanaged. By clearing both young growth and more established saplings, the team created the conditions needed for native trees, plants and wildlife to thrive. The cleared material was then used to build dead hedges, providing valuable habitats for insects, birds and small mammals while strengthening the woodland ecosystem.
The day reflected our wider approach to sustainability. Every charge delivered across the InstaVolt network is powered by 100% renewable electricity, helping drivers reduce their transport emissions with confidence. Our investment in clean energy infrastructure is complemented by projects that protect and enhance the natural environment, recognising that building a more sustainable future includes strengthening both the UK’s EV charging network and the local environments where we live and work.
